The Spinnaker Tower is a striking recent addition to the city's skyline. It can be found in the redeveloped former HMS Vernon, formerly a shore establishment or 'stone frigate' of the Royal Navy, now an area of retail outlets, restaurants, clubs and bars now known as Gunwharf Quays. Soaring 170 metres above Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent, the Spinnaker Tower is taller than the London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben and has already established itself as a national icon for Britain.
A world class visitor attraction, the much-admired, elegant viewing Tower stands proud over one of the most fascinating seascapes in the world. Situated on the waterfront at Gunwharf Quays, it offers amazing 350º panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour, the South coast and the Isle of Wight, with views stretching out for up to 23 miles breathtaking by day and a glittering sea of lights by night.
View Deck 1 boasts Europes largest glass floor, where visitors of all ages can dare to walk on air! View Deck 2 has self-contained multimedia Time Telescope stations showing the history of the harbour and View Deck 3 The Crows Nest is open to the elements, enabling visitors to feel the wind in their hair.
Enjoy 'High Tea in The Clouds' and enjoy the uplifting views. Served in the Clouds cafe, 105 metres above the ground. Afternoon tea includes a traditional afternoon tea selection of sandwiches, an assortment of sweet treats and fruit scones with clotted cream and jam plus a selection of teas and coffees. Quite an experience!
The second largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. Portsmouth is commonly misconceived as being the United Kingdom's only island city; it is mainly on Portsea Island.
As a significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth is home to the world's oldest dry dock and also home to some famous ships, including HMS Warrior, the Tudor carrack Mary Rose andLord Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory (the world's oldest naval ship still in commission). Although smaller than in its heyday, the naval base remains a major dockyard and base for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Commandos whose Headquarters resides there. There is also a thriving commercial cruise ship and ferry-port serving destinations on the continent for freight and passenger traffic. The City of Portsmouth and Portsmouth Football Club are both nicknamed "Pompey".
Entry to the tower and viewing platform is included.
