School Of Rock - London Theatre

School Of Rock - London Theatre

Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit Broadway musical based on the Jack Black film, is coming to London with songs such as You’re In The Band, School Of Rock and Math Is A Wonderful Thing.

We all know that London is no stranger to adaptations from the big screen but 2016 brings a show that is bound to put smiles on the faces of audiences across the West End. School Of Rock, famous as a Jack Black film from 2003, is ripe for musical theatre treatment, with its story of a fake substitute teacher turning his students into rock legends providing great material for a memorable West End show.

And who better to bring it all to life than the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber? He provides the music for what is bound to be one of the most talked-about musicals of the decade!

Dewey Finn (the character played by Jack Black in the film version) is a down on his luck musician. He is jobless and has just been kicked out of his band, with little hope on the horizon, so when he is given the opportunity to become a substitute teacher he goes for it. Sure, he pretends to be his roommate in the process and knows nothing about teaching, but he gives it a go anyway. But when the curriculum proves to be outside of his skill-set, he falls back on his music skills in an effort to create a band of schoolchildren who can compete in a battle of the bands.

The original film contained songs of its own and some of those make it into this stage version, but they are also joined by new numbers penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber (composer) and Glenn Slater (lyricist). It means that audiences have plenty of things old and new to sink their teeth into when the show opens at the New London Theatre, with songs such as You’re In The Band, School Of Rock and Math Is A Wonderful Things to name but a few.

The production has already taken Broadway by storm, with Tony Award nominations and critically acclaim sure to propel it to West End success. If you’re looking for a great show in the West End, you can’t go too wrong with School Of Rock!
