Lakeland Express Overnight
The Settle-Carlisle Railway line is one of the most famous in England with half a million passengers riding on it every year. We also take in Skipton and more beautiful scenery through the Lake District.

Skipton - Gateway to the Dales
Day 1
We make our way to the market town of Skipton often called the Gateway to the Dales with its many shops, cobbled streets and alleyways. We then join our diesel train for the breath-taking journey on England's most scenic railway line. We travel through stunning countryside to Shap where we stay overnight with dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2
Leaving the hotel we travel towards the wonderful Lake District, following the shore of Ullswater and head over Kirkstone Pass and descend to Lake Windermere, where we take a short break before continuing our journey home.
The Shap Wells Hotel:
Situated in a secluded, wooded valley, high in the Shap Fells Penrith and surrounded by mountain streams yet only minutes from the M6 (Junction 39) and the A6. Shap Wells Hotel is the ideal place from which to explore the Lakes, Dales and the English and Scottish Border Counties.
With red deer, red squirrels and other wildlife within the grounds of the hotel and beyond, many of our rooms having breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and fells, offering a true taste of the English countryside. The hotel has retained many of its original features over the years and much time has been taken to retain the true character of the building.
