Windsor Castle
The largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, formerly the official residences of the late Her Majesty The Queen. The Castle's dramatic site encapsulates 900 years of British history. It covers an area of 26 acres and contains, as well as a royal palace, a magnificent chapel and the homes and workplaces of a large number of people. The magnificent State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Gainsborough.
In 1992 fire destroyed or damaged more than 100 rooms at the Castle. By good fortune the rooms worst affected were empty at the time, and as a result, few of the Castle's artistic treasures were destroyed. The highly acclaimed restoration work, completed in 1997, is a testament to the extraordinary skills of some of the finest craftsmen in Europe.
St George's Chapel is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. It is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the senior order of British Chivalry established in 1348 by Edward III. Within the chapel are the tombs of ten sovereigns, including Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour, and Charles I.
RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
Experience the worlds largest annual flower show in the setting of the historic palace at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Make a day of it and immerse yourself in displays showcasing more than 250,000 flowers.
Explore innovative show gardens and snap a picture of the stunning flower displays. Watch demonstrations by both celebrity gardeners and chefs around the showgrounds. Plus, get tips on gardening in a changing climate and shop for garden supplies to create your own little oasis at home.
Run by the Royal Horticultural Society, who also manage the Chelsea Flower Show, the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show attracts around 130,000 visitors every year. The RHS judges reward the best garden designs and floral exhibits on the first day of the show; see if you agree with their choices.
No flower show would be complete without spectacular Show Gardens and the marvellous Floral Marquee will showcase specially-selected floral exhibitors and specialist nurseries with stunning displays to inspire you. It's the perfect place to stock up on choice and unusual seasonal plants and around the showground there are inspiring talks and demonstrations by celebrity gardeners as well as fabulous shopping opportunities.
