Harrogate:

The definitive boutique spa town in the heart of Yorkshire. Its thriving streets buzz with the spa heritage which can be seen at every turn.  Possibly the most distinctive feature of Harrogate is its vast open space that surrounds the town centre, known locally as the Stray, at 200 acres this gives Harrogate town centre a green and spacious feel unique to the town.

Born through a boom in Spa tourism during the Victorian 1800s Harrogate quickly developed a reputation for luxurious getaways for body and soul. The high society of the Victorian Britain flocked to Harrogate to enjoy the air, the space and the therapeutic spa treatments as well as taking the famous Harrogate waters. This reputation continues to be well deserved. 

Modern day Harrogate is the go-to destination for relaxation and indulgence, synonymous with quality shopping and afternoon tea - Betty's Teashop is a must where you will enjoy afternnon tea! The Spa history continues to shape the town with several superb spas, including the original Turkish Baths in the iconic Royal Baths building in the centre of town.

Harrogate is known for its floral excellence, evident in the magnificent displays across the town and in its well-kept parks and gardens. The largest of these is the Grade II listed Valley Gardens, which features several distinctive areas and receives 3 million visitors a year.

 

York:

To explore York is to explore 2000 years of history, from the ancient walls of Roman York to the Viking remains of JORVIK and the grandeur of Georgian York. Delve into York’s heritage, discover hidden attractions off the beaten track, enjoy a vivid food and drink scene and wander in and out of contemporary independent shops. The Chocolate Story, York

Your expert guide will take you on a 1hr15min tour, guiding you through the history of chocolate's founding families - Terry’s, Craven’s and Rowntree’s. Discover the chocolatier's secrets in the factory zone learning how a simple cocoa bean is transformed into the finest chocolate in our virtual chocolate factory. Also you’ll discover the history of some of York’s most iconic chocolate brands – take a trip down memory lane and reminisce with some retro favourites from times gone by.

You’ll also learn the secret of why chocolate makes us feel so good and why it has an ethical and sustainable future. Then it’s time to master the secrets of the chocolatier, as you create hand-made chocolates for yourself, before seeing how our very own experts do it. Watch our Chocolatiers as they showcase the art of chocolate-making and sample the fruits of their labour: fresh hand-made chocolates.

 

 

 

Day 1

We depart the West Country and make our way to Harrogate where we check in for our 1 night stay for dinner, bed & breakfast. Free time to explore the delights of Harrogate and enjoy Afternoon Tea at Betty's famous teashop.

Day 2

After breakfast we check out of our hotel and you'll enjoy a short scenic journey to York. Free time in York and a visit to The Chocolate Story to depart 4.30pm to arrive home early eavening.

Located in the heart of historic Harrogate, the Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member offers amazing accommodation overlooking 200 acres of the pristine Stray parkland.

 

While the property is a historic sight in its own right, dating back to 1671 and sitting on the site of the town’s first-ever hotel, our Harrogate hotel is only a quick stroll away from some of the must-visit attractions. These include the famous Bettys Tea Room, unique Moorish-style Turkish Baths and Harrogate Theatre.

Elegant function rooms, with large windows offer plenty of natural daylight and views of landscaped garden. The marriage of historic excellence and modern convenience makes our hotel the perfect base for visiting some of the famous sites in town.

 

The hotel have recently enjoyed the completion of a soft refurbishment: standard bedrooms have benefitted from a makeover in a modern, contemporary style, and the reception area has been completely transformed with the state of the art self-check-in, check-out terminals – and stunning light-box installation in the ceiling!

 

Each of our rooms are non-smoking, include a 24-hour room service and feature premium mattresses for a great night’s sleep. All rooms en-suite with shower over the bath. Enjoycomplimentary Wi-Fi, flat screen TV with Freeview channels, tea and coffee making facilities.

 

The hotel has 2 lifts to all 4 floors.

NO walk-in showers although hotel does have 4 disabled friendly rooms (on request).

The Cedar Court Hotel Leeds/ Bradford is an excellent location for our weekend break and all bedrooms are en suite with TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
