Plymouth:
Welcome to Plymouth, Britain's Ocean City, where the city meets the sea and adventure is always within reach.
Plymouth has an interesting and varied history, and there are some fascinating local sites to be visited in the area dating from the 15th century onwards such as the famous Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrims set sail in 1620, and the Mayflower Museum, where you can take a journey through time with four floors and four centuries to explore.
Within Plymouth, you'll also find 37 ancient monuments including boundary stones, milestones and other markers which add great interest to the local heritage landscape. Our landmark and trail guides offer a great day for those interested in re-living Plymouth's past or download the free Plymouth Trails app.
For a deep dive into the city's history, make sure to visit The Box Plymouth's museum, art gallery and cultural centre which is home to thousands of fascinating objects.
Plymouth prides itself on its arts & culture, hosting many exhibitions and events throughout the year in the great range of galleries. The city was home to famous artists including Beryl Cook, whose work was often comical, picturing people whom she encountered in everyday life as well as one of Britain's most infamous painters Robert Lenkiewicz whose work still exists on the walls of buildings within The Barbican.
Kents Cavern:
One of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain's best showcaves!
Kents Cavern is a spectacular natural cave on the coast of south Devon, England with an incredible history. On your visit you'll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you'll be surrounded by 400 million-year-old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. The cave was used by Britains first humans including Neanderthals. Remains of mammoth, woolly rhino and cave bears are found here.
The award-winning attraction, with a café and gift shop, is a short walk from local beaches and the beautiful South West Coast path. Kents Cavern is Britains most accessible cave, in an urban setting, we specialise in group visits and welcome all ages into the cave.
Kents Cavern is a gateway for UNESCO's English Riviera Global Geopark in Torquay, the birthplace of Agatha Christie, the Worlds most published crime writer.
The tour of the cave gives an amazing insight into Ice Age life and an opportunity to see naturally formed chambers, stunning geological formations and to walk through an underground world that was home to Europes first humans.
