Carmarthen is reputed to be the birthplace of the legendary wizard Merlin and has the distinction of being Wales oldest town. It stands on a bluff above the River Towy which runs from the Black Mountains down into Carmarthen Bay. Nearby are the National Botanical Gardens of Wales and the historic Aberglasney Gardens as well as the many majestic medieval castles which dominate the landscape of West Wales.
The town itself has a large leisure centre and the area offers a choice of golf courses, river and lake fishing, walking and rambling and areas of outstanding beauty.
Travelling to South Wales, you will visit Cardiff Bay to enjoy a relaxing 45-minute sightseeing cruise around the area where you will see the Senedd, Norwegian Church and other famous sights.
You will travel to Camarthen and check into your hotel for a 1 night stay with dinner, bed & breakfast. Free time to relax and go off and explore.
On day 2 after breakfast we check out of our hotel and head to Abergwili Junction Station to join the Gwili Railway to enjoy a 90 minute journey with delicious Welsh elevenses travelling through beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside, stepping back in time to more genteel days.
After our visit we head for home.
Day 1
We depart the West Country and travel to Camarthen via Cardiff Bay and enjoy a 45-minute sightseeing cruise and check into our hotel for our 1 night stay for dinner, bed & breakfast. Free time to relax and go off and explore.
Day 2
After breakfast we check out of our hotel and head to the Gwili Railway. Early afternoon we then continue and head back for home.
