Falmouth for example, has the world's third largest deep-water harbour and is the country's first and last port. It is framed by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) along the Helford and Fal Rivers and Roseland Peninsula, located on the outstanding South West Coast Path, a magnet for walkers, picnickers and families alike and is renowned as the one of UKs premier daysailing destination.
Falmouth is at the forefront of the regions artistic and marine excellence. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall (entry fees apply) has 15 galleries, over five floors beautifully exploring our maritime heritage and heroes. Where else in the world can you jump aboard a Viking ship and meet the Vikings, go under the sea without getting wet, learn how to sail, climb a 100ft tower and touch Olympic boats all in one day? Discover rare antiquities, many on display for the first time in the UK. Encounter real history from ship graffiti to a sorceress wand and treasures from Viking raids. Discover Cornwalls past, its people and the part they played in making Britain great.
Pendennis Castle is well worth a visit (English Heritage - entry fees apply). 450 years of history can now be traced from its origins as one of Henry VIIIs coastal strongholds to its last military role as a secret Second World War base. A Discovery Centre packed with hands-on activities allows visitors of all ages to really get to grips with history. There is visitor access to the restored underground Victorian and WWII defences complete with sounds and smells! The everyday life of the garrison at Pendennis is brought to life in the War Shelter, whilst the drama of Pendennis at War is also recreated. The turn of the 20th century Barrack Block has undergone renovations to provide a new interactive exhibition and enhance the visitor facilities. Enjoy the best views in Falmouth with water surrounding the castle on three sides.
Falmouth Week provides a racing programme to challenge the most competitive sailors, yet retains a fun and friendly feel which also attracts families and the less experienced. The regatta is organised by the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association (PoFSA) which is a partnership of Falmouth's six local sailing clubs. Originally a series of independent sailing regattas with modest Shoreside activities for competitors, their families, and visitors, it is now a major event in the towns calendar with something for everyone to enjoy.
As in previous years, there will hopefully be an air display - awaiting confirmation.
Depart approx. 18.00 depending on the festival schedule.
