This tour covers a variety of magnificent scenery and contrasting countryside, with quaint Yorkshire towns and villages. We also feature a ride on the Wensleydale Railway, re-living times gone by. Also included, a stop at the historic Sun Inn at Bilsdale. In the Ainsley family since 1823, the present Sun Inn stands next to its ancient, Grade I listed predecessor and is now a ‘must-see’ museum for pub historians.

Monday
We depart and make our way to Yorkshire and our hotel for the next 4 nights with dinner, bed and breakfast.
During your stay
Visit to the market town of Yarm.
Journey through Bilsdale or ‘Little Switzerland’ to the historic 16th century Sun Inn. We call in to enjoy a real treat - Yorkshire Curd Tart.
Visit to Richmond - The Green Howards Museum and the Richmondshire Museum, which houses the film set from ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’
Wensleydale Railway for a nostalgic ride through rural scenery from Leyburn to Leeming Bar.
We head to Ampleforth Abbey, home to many ‘Mousey Thompson’ furniture pieces, renowned for his little mouse carvings.
We join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a steam train journey to Whitby and Goathland, the setting for ‘Aidensfield’ in TV’s Heartbeat.
Whitby, a maritime town, characterful and unique. Wander the alleyways and narrow streets and climb the steps up to Whitby Abbey.

After breakfast we depart for home.

The Blackwell Grange Hotel is a stunning 17th Century mansion, which enjoys an enviable setting in the beautiful County Durham countryside. The hotel is nestled in wooded parkland in Darlington, located between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Pennines. Hotel facilities include leisure club with heated indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna. All bedrooms are en suite with TV, radio, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
