Set in rural Wiltshire, Lacock village is famous for its picturesque streets, historic buildings and more recently as a TV and film location.
The Abbey, located at the heart of the village within its own woodland grounds, is a quirky country house of various architectural styles, built upon the foundations of a former nunnery. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of the medieval rooms and cloister court, giving a sense of the Abbey's monastic past.
The museum celebrates the achievements of former Lacock resident, William Henry Fox Talbot, famous for his contributions to the invention of photography.
On a day out in Lacock there is plenty for you to see and do. Its the perfect place to spend a whole day. On your visit you can discover the history of the Abbey and newly opened rooms, take a walk in the grounds and enjoy spring bulbs, summer borders and the greenhouse. Wander through the historic village with many great shops and places to have a meal, and dont miss the wonderful changing exhibitions in the upper gallery of the Fox Talbot Museum.
There have been gardens at Lacock Abbey for nearly 900 years. Each new owner has refashioned the grounds, from the herb and vegetable gardens that supplied medieval nuns to the pleasure grounds of a fashionable 18th-century gentleman. Now the grounds are a place for you to relax and be immersed in the scents, sounds and colours of nature.
National Trust members pay coach only. Non-members pay their own entry upon arrival.
