The National Memorial Arboretum is the United Kingdom's living and lasting memorial and is situated in the centre of England at Alrewas in Staffordshire, 10 minutes north of Lichfield. To commemorate and celebrate:

  • Those who have given their lives in the service of their country,

  • All who have served and those who have suffered as a result of conflict,

  • Others who for specific or appropriate reasons are commemorated on the site.

Experience a magical winter's evening together at Illuminated Arboretum, discovering extraordinary stories told through colour, light, and sound.

Illuminated Arboretum - A storytelling experience ‘light’ no other.

Around every corner at the Arboretum, you’ll find a story waiting to be discovered. Join us this December for a mesmerising journey with a difference. With the night sky setting the scene, Illuminated Arboretum transforms our landscape using light, sound and colour to bring our special stories to life. It’s magical, meaningful, and memorable, and an experience that everyone will enjoy.

Something extraordinary awaits around every bend along your 1.5-mile Illuminated journey, from dazzling installations that tell important stories, to fun hands-on elements you can control and touch. This year, as we mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, we’ll be shining a special light on pivotal moments from the year 1945.

The Arboretum is a unique haven of peace, contemplation and hope for the future and is the site of the Armed Forces Memorial. It consists of 150 acres of wooded parkland within the National Forest in Staffordshire where visitors can both enjoy and learn about the trees and their surroundings, and reflect upon their special symbolism.

The Arboretum has a lot to offer both young and old. The Visitor Centre provides a welcoming start, break and finish point to your visit to the Arboretum. It houses the receception and exhibition areas, gift shop and the Arbour Restaurant.

Come for a day out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity, the trees, the memorials, the history, the sense of national pride. Have lunch or drinks in the Arbour Restaurant; find all sorts of gifts and memorabilia in our shop; above all enjoy the experience.
