Shrewsbury and Black Country Living Museum Overnight

 

We depart from home travelling north to beautiful Shrewsbury, Shropshire. With timber framed black and white buildings amongst narrow alleyways and surrounded by the sweeping River Severn. Here, we enjoy a relaxed cruise on the River Severn with tea/coffee and biscuits.

 

Afterwards, we travel the short distance to Telford for our overnight stay at the Mercure Telford Hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast.

 

In the morning, we travel to the Black Country Living Museum, Dudly, West Midlands. If you're a fan of Peaky Blinders', you will recognise the open air museum as many scenes were filmed here.

 

Covering 26 acres of former industrial land, Black Country Living Museum is uniquely placed to tell the story of the creation of the world’s first industrial landscape. It is one of the most extraordinary open-air museums in the UK; offering a glimpse into 200 years of history like no other.

 

Black Country folk changed the world, and in the streets of our canalside village, on our tramway and down our underground mine, you and your family can experience how ‘they’ became ‘us’. Over fifty authentic shops, houses and workshops have been carefully reconstructed to preserve the character of the region when its manufacturers bought worldwide fame to Black Country Towns. Visit the old sweet shop, bakery and fish 'n chip shop.

 

Take a trip on the tram to explore the canalside village, where you can meet and chat to the costumed characters. Explore the underground mine and experience the authentic sights, sounds, smells and tastes from the past. We have changing programme of demonstrations and events from metal working and glass cutting to sweetmaking ensures something to suit all tastes. Watch the silver screen flicker to life in the Limelight Cinema with silent films from the 1920s. Marvel over vehicles from the golden age of motoring and experience a real spit and sawdust Inn.

 

Step into the past and discover a Fascinating World. The Black Country Living Museum create a tribute to the traditional skills & enterprise of the people that once lived in the heart of Industrial Britain. Take a lesson in an old Fashioned School, Explore the underground coal mine. There is so much to do and something to suit everyone.

 

After our visit, we then head for home.

 

Day 1

We depart the West Country and travel to Shrewsbury for a browse and river cruise and then travel on to our hotel where we enjoy overnight stay with dinner, bed & breakfast

Day 2

After breakfast we make our way to Black Country Living Museum, and afterwards we head for home..

Mercure Telford Hotel

 

Centrally located, the hotel stands near the town centre. Guests have complimentary access to WiFi. Onsite leisure facilities include a gym and an indoor swimming pool with sauna, steam room and jacuzi (possible £10 charge).
