Explore the medieval streets of Winchester and admire the history of Winchester Cathedral and Wolvesey Castle before strolling along the River Itchen to The Hospital of St Cross

Find out exactly how it felt to be a Pilgrim, discover hidden treasures, explore the creepy crypt and search for the bones of early kings and bishops on the trail at Winchester Cathedral. Explore more than 1000 years of history in Europe’s longest medieval Cathedral. Discover the beautiful illuminated Winchester Bible, 12th-century wall paintings, medieval carvings, contemporary art and the awe and wonder of this magnificent building. The Cathedral Café, with its pretty garden and open-air terrace, is the perfect place to stop for mid-morning coffee and pastry, delicious homemade lunch or Hampshire cream tea. The Cathedral Shop sells a wide range of unique gifts, souvenirs and CDs of the famous Cathedral Choir.

Climb the steep stone steps, open the creaky door and read the graffiti etched in the wall by prisoners at the Westgate Museum. Children will love dressing like a Roman and searching through the galleries to track down answers to the quizzes at Winchester City Museum. Be thrilled by the sights and sounds of Winchester City Mill  and have a go at milling flour. Learn more about the mill with interactive quizzes and hands-on activities including CCTV footage of Winchester’s resident otters.
